Flood, Fire & Washing Machine

On my way to work this morning… I heard the DJs over the radio, enthusiastically discussing about flood, explosion and washing machine… In the back of my (still sleepy) mind, I thought to myself: “What on earth had they to do with each other??? Flood and washing machine. Yes. Explosion and washing machine. Yes. But flood, explosion and washing machine… Am I too sleepy or what…” So out of curiosity, I concentrated on their conversation and finally realized that they were commenting on a household disaster that happened in Sheungshui (Hong Kong) this morning…

It’s a very simple, common, everyday story of a guy forgetting to empty his pockets before doing his washing…. It’s something that you and I “did” every once in a while but unfortunately for this unlucky guy, the two coins that he left in his pockets, slipped out of his pants and somehow got stuck in the draining pipe of the washing machine… If you had been observant, you would have noticed that washing machine usually goes into a cycle of high spin, then low spin and back high again… High spin for spinning the water off the clothes and slow spin to wash… But with the coins stuck, the machine went high and high and high and eventually exploded causing both fire and flooding to occur in the apartment.

Honestly, I do occasionally forget to empty my pockets but compared to him, I was pretty lucky to have just either lose that “thing” that I forget to empty or having bits and pieces of paper fibers everywhere in the washing… Never had it occurred to me that forgetting to empty the pockets of the washing could have such hugh consequences… So dear friends, do learn the lesson and remember to empty your pockets before doing your washing…
